Makatec GmbH aim at providing their customers with environmentally friendly heating and cooling systems based on innovative technological solutions, standing out, as compared to conventional absorption systems, for their low prime costs, among others. Absorption systems are an attractive alternative to compression systems especially if waste heat is availableat affordable prices for driving the process. The use of absorption chillers has been limited to large industrial plants so far. Reasons are the size of the absorbers, the related costs and the space requirements and, in the case of mobile use, the position sensitivity and the weight of the systems. The fundamental innovation of Makatec is to use so-called porous membranes for new resorption systems in order to achieve the following benefits:
Innovation: Resorption SystemsResorption systems can be described as absorption systems in which annother solvent circuit replaces the evaporator and the condenser. This means that there is no pure coolant present in the system. For the design of a plant there is an additional degree of freedom which, for example, can be used to reduce the pressure within the system. In ammonia-water-plants the elaborate and costly scrubbing of gases after desorption is not necessary. By using stainless steel plate heat exchangers and new membrane-based components it is possible to get compact and economic refrigeration plants in the performance range < 100 kW.
Innovation: Membrane contactors with integrated heat exchangersMembrane contactors with polymer pore membranes and integrated heat exchangers are characterized by their small and robust structures. The weight and volume of a complete absorption system may be reduced by up to 80% - compared to conventionally constructed absorption systems. Thus the initial costs may considerably be reduced. In addition the robust and light structure allows deployment in mobile applications. By using commercially available favourably priced plastic materials and doing without metals, Makatec systems are not corrodible and can be manufactured at a much more favourable price than conventional systems. |
